#1 Air Conditioner Won't Power On

One of the most common problems with the Amana air conditioning system is its failure to power on. However, this may not be an issue with the cooling system and its components, but an electrical failure, a tripped circuit breaker, or a busted fuse in the breaker box. The unit may also be receiving low incoming voltage that isn't a sufficient power source.

#2 Air Conditioner Turns On, But is Not Cooling Properly

If the HVAC system does power on, but is insufficiently cooling your space, listen in to any sounds coming from your AC unit. Air conditioners would often have a low, quiet whirring noise that indicates the fan motor is running, but a loud noise or even no noise at all may mean there is an issue with the fan of your unit.

An air conditioner that does not blow cool air may have issues with the compressor failing to distribute refrigerant around the unit, low refrigerant levels, fan blades or blower motor, a dirty air filter, or a frozen evaporator coil. If the indoor unit is leaking refrigerant, then the air conditioner cannot sufficiently cool the room.

Because it is difficult for homeowners to pinpoint the cause of the issue, it is best to have an HVAC professional check the aircon to diagnose any issues. Our Luce Aircon HVAC technician will be able to find and fix any weak points or damaged parts of your Amana air conditioner to get it up and running again!

#3 Air Conditioner has Weak Airflow Issues

If the AC is functioning properly, but has poor or weak airflow, the problem is most likely due to a blockage in the vents of the indoor or outdoor unit. Dirty air filters may also contribute to poor airflow as it restricts air circulation in and around the unit.

Check for any debris or large items blocking the vents, and clear any blockages. Clean the air filter with some soap and running water to remove the dust build up, and check if these solve the airflow issue.

#4 Air Conditioner is Short Cycling

When the air conditioner is shutting on and powering back on intermittently, the aircon undergoes what is called short cycling. This is often due to an airflow problem within the unit, causing the unit to overwork and overload. However, it may also be caused by electric heat, problems with the condenser coils, or other internal components of the AC unit.

If your Amana PTAC is short-cycling, it is best to power the unit off, then contact us at Luce Aircon for an accurate diagnosis and repairs. Our HVAC technicians will be able to find and fix the problem, and give your AC unit a thorough clean as well to prevent any additional issues.

How to Reset Your Amana AC Unit

Reset Point: Cool and Heat Buttons

To reset your Amana air conditioner, you will need to locate the Cool and Heat buttons, as well as the master switch. Press and hold down the Cool and Heat buttons at the same time, then turn the master switch on while holding down on both buttons. The light beside your off button should turn red, indicating that you have successfully restarted your unit.

Amana Air Conditioner Troubleshooting Guide

#1 Clean Your Air Conditioner Thoroughly

Cleaning your Amana PTAC will solve most aircon issues that are due to dirty filters and coils. A thorough cleaning will also prevent any damage or aircon issues in the future, and maintaining a cleaning schedule will help lengthen the life and strengthen the durability of your Amana air conditioners.

#2 Have the AC Unit Checked Professionally

Have your unit checked twice a year, even if your unit isn't exhibiting any problems. A routine checkup will find and fix issues before they become problems later on, and you'll be able to catch any damaged or weakening parts early. A professional checkup will also give you an accurate diagnosis of the issue with your malfunctioning Amana air conditioner.
